As a fourth generation Californian, Lisa has a deep affinity for the landscape, lifestyle, and cultural offerings of the Golden State. Just as her home state offers extremes of experiences: desert to ocean, snow to meadow, redwoods to Salton Sea,
her creative interests follow suit. As a voracious reader, she thrives on reading books, listening to music, and
writing poetry to help her make sense of the tiny details in life.
Influenced by her father’s love of fractions and f-stops, she sought to master photography as well, studying it in school and at workshops in the south of France. Photo retouching skills led her to work with 1451 International, the Vatican Library Collections, where she gold-leafed and wrote copy. While working on her BA in English, she studied abroad in Italy, where she met her talented husband, Tom, an artist with whom she occasionally creates collaborative pieces.
After completing her MFA in poetry, she briefly taught poetry at Cal State University Long Beach, then in 2004 began teaching Composition and Literature at Orange Coast College. Lisa taught a 2013 summer study abroad in Florence, Italy for Coastline College, and she rounded out her teaching career at the Laguna College of Art and Design.
Travel and cooking are her passions, and time spent in Italy, France, and Ireland resulted in a small cookbook and two photography books (Portals, Passages, and Thresholds; and Graffiti Culture Roma).
A review of the book Graffiti Culture Roma can be found in ISM magazine.
A review of her artwork, written by Dave Barton, can be found in the OC Weekly.
Literary journal publications include appearances in Rip Rap, Pearl, Spillway, Vulcan, StoryLine, and the Orange Coast Review.
While she now works as a freelance editor and copywriter, her love for art and creating tangible objects still sees her occasionally exhibit artwork that combines original photography and poetry.
